ILAC Indigenous Living Arts Centre

We thought we would share some lovely images we created to support the idea of a National Indigenous Living Arts Centre. Modelled after the NCIE in Sydney, and using art & culture instead of sport, its aim is to bring together indigenous culture and arts and offer an informal and positive setting for the exchange of ideas and beliefs as are important to living cultures. Developed in collaboration with NRA, the project imagines building into the cliff, such that the cliff and the building merge to create a unique space for locals and visitors alike.

Teneriffe ‘Place-Making’

We are excited to be invited to participate in a ‘place-making process’, for our local Teneriffe Area, that will look at improvements over time to resident and visitor amenity and safety, future uses and growth opportunities, an improved relationship between the built form and local ecology and an enhanced sense of culture, ownership and identity for this riverside precinct. The study will initially focus on the precinct defined by Vernon Terrace, Florence Street and Commercial Road.

The study should deliver an interesting set of ideas to Brisbane City Council and will be exhibited at the forthcoming Teneriffe Festival 5th, July 2014. We are pleased to be collaborating with Pritchard Planning and Property and Butler + Webb.

Prefab Housing, Stradbroke Island

This week MWA are starting work on a unique housing project, to assist local inhabitants of Stradbroke Island to address the local housing shortage, and explore the benefits of the recent proof of continuous tenure for the Island’s local indigenous community.

We will be working closely with the local indigenous community to develop appropriate design solutions, that consider budget, remoteness, relavant amenity and traditional living arrangements. The designs will also challenge assumptions around relevant building code requirements and construction techniques.
